About Markel Corporation

markel corporationMarkel Corporation was founded in 1922 at our present location in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania. Our initial product line centered around braided textile-based sleevings which were coated with linseed oil and used as insulation for the copper wire leads in vacuum tube radios. Our product lines and core technologies grew steadily branching out into heat shrink tubing, silicone rubber tape and wire and fluoropolymer tubing and wire.

In 1978, we developed our patented AR (Abrasion Resistant) Push Pull Cable liner in response to the need for improved efficiencies at higher temperatures in automotive accelerator and transmission shift cables. By 2000, we made a strategic decision to divest all product lines except fluoropolymers and reinvest for significant growth in this core business.

During the past ten years, Markel evolved from a small, regionally focused manufacturer of electrical insulation products to a world-class manufacturer of high performance fluoropolymer components. Our present and future focus is the development of unique, specialized manufacturing and materials capabilities in order to meet important customer needs.
